Hair Removal : Keep Your Legs Smoother for Longer

Keep Your Legs Smoother for Longer

With the summer around the corner it’s time to start thinking about swapping those suffocating jeans out for shorts and floaty skirts. ! Of course, we all want sexy smooth legs to go with them! Keeping your legs in tip top condition will ensure we look and feel great, but as I’m sure most of you know, keeping our pins legs looking at their best all summer is not an easy job.

There are many techniques for hair removal, but which will keep our legs smooth for the longest?

Shaving

Shaving may be the quickest and easiest option, taking just a few minutes, but the results aren’t the best. Hairs just get sliced off at the surface, not the root, so it’s only a day or two before you start to see the hairs growing back and need to shave them off again. Also, these hairs become sharp where the razor has sheared them, and if you’re not careful there is the possibility of cutting your skin as well as razor burn, which is also very common.

Chemical Depilation

Another popular technique is depilation, which uses a chemical based cream to break down the hair at the base. That way, when you wipe the cream off 5 to 10 minutes later, all the hair comes away with it. This is a great option for people with a low tolerance for pain, and it lasts for around the same time twice as long as shaving. It also means no accidental razor cuts, risk of in-grown hair and can easily be done at home – Veet® even does spray-on removal creams, which can save you lots of time on application.

Waxing

This is a very commonly used technique for ridding your legs of those unwanted hairs. You can buy ready to use strips from Veet®, and do it yourself from the comfort of your own bathroom. It may take a little longer than shaving but you should expect to be hairless for 2-4up to 28 days weeks! Be sure to exfoliate around twenty-four24 hours before, to ward off ingrown hairs and keep your legs super soft.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Whilst talking about longer lasting hair removal, IPL has to get a mention, but as with anything there are pros and cons. It is less costly than laser, and works in a similar sort of way, but has some advantages. IPL can permanently reduce hair growth*, and all though it might take more sessions than with other treatments, such as laser, it can be done from the comfort of your own home.

Laser Hair Removal

Along with IPL, we have laser hair removal which works by destroying the hair follicle, this time with a strong beam of light. The treatment is considered a less painful option. However, some re-growth can be expected with laser hair removal. Both IPL and Laser hair removal are not suitable for all skin types, so it’s worth consulting a healthcare professional or beautician to understand the risks of different procedures.

Some of these options work better for one type of person over another regardless of how long they last, so to each their own! Everyone will have a favourite, so keeping this advice in mind, just do whatever works best for you. Whichever you use, be sure to moisture your legs afterwards and keep your skin radiant and hydrated by drinking lots of water. Once you’re done, why not treat yourself to a pedicure and a new pair of shoes to finish off your perfect leg look!
