In 1946 Louis Réard unveiled his “Bikini,” a two-piece swimsuit that shocked not because of the height of the pant on the leg, but because it exposed the wearer’s navel! Named after the South Pacific atoll where the US were performing atomic bomb testing, these four triangles of material (totalling only 30 cm²!) took the world by storm despite initial resistance.
The need to remove hair from these newly exposed areas necessitated the creation of a new term: the “bikini line” and introduced something else for women to have to think about!
Luckily, keeping your bikini line well-groomed and hair-free is no hassle at all thanks to new methods of home waxing and depilation creams. Here we’ll take a look at these methods, which are designed to ensure that hair removal is as quick, easy and pain free as possible.
Waxing is a great option because the hairs are removed from the root, meaning that they take up to four weeks to grow back. They also grow back softer and finer over time, meaning less discomfort for you. There are two methods we would recommend for the bikini line: For a quick tidy up, bikini wax strips are perfect. All you have to do is warm the strip slightly with your hands, apply to the desired area, and then pull it off with the Easy Grip™, taking the hair with it. The strips can also be cut to fit your body’s contours, ensuring a great finish. For something a little bit more substantial, the Easywax™ Roll-On system heats up the wax for you, and works as a precise applicator thanks to its specific bikini-line roller head for salon quality results at home.
Depilating creams are fast and convenient, working in as little as three minutes. These creams break down the hairs and cause them to break off just below the skin, leaving your skin super soft and smooth for twice as long as with shaving. The classic Veet® hair removal creams come in different formats, such as a tube, a pump with a domed spatula applicator that follows the contours of your body, and the Veet® Bikini Kit which also includes a gentle finishing cream.
Simply apply the cream to the desired area, and wait for it to work. After a few minutes, scrape a small amount off to see if the hair comes with it. If some hair remains, repeat the process every minute or so until all of the hair is gone. Do not exceed the time indicated in the instructions. If you find one or two stubborn hairs, then just pluck these with tweezers to achieve perfect results.
Of course, there is always the dreaded option of shaving. This should never be your first option, as it can leave ingrown hairs, dark undergrowth and black dots making it very difficult to get a clean line – and that’s not to mention the itching! However, as well all know, sometimes there’s no other choice...
With any hair removal method, it is recommended that you test it on a small patch of skin to ensure that you won’t have a reaction. Immediately following the removal of hair from your bikini line, avoid using scented or harsh soaps or moisturisers for 24 hours, and avoid wearing tight or scratchy underwear to stay free of skin irritation. For amazing results, exfoliate 24 hours before the treatment, and immediately beforehand wash the area with warm water to open up all your pores before drying it carefully. This makes the process much easier and more effective, ensuring you’re left beautiful and ready for the beach.
