Aside from keeping debris like sweat and water from falling into our eye socket, eyebrows actually play an incredibly important role when it comes to human connection. Imagine trying to convey a facial expression without eyebrows — it’d be weird!
Eyebrows are also a great way to express individuality and frame your face. Whether you like them thick and bushy or on the thinner side, there’s a flattering style for everyone. However, sometimes it can be difficult to know which shape to go for. We all have different face shapes and different styles look good on different people.
We realize it can be overwhelming to figure out how to perfectly shape your brows, so we’ve compiled some tips and tricks, based on face shape, to help you through the process.
If you have a round-shaped face…
If you have a round-shaped face, your facial length and width will roughly be the same size. Celebrities like Mila Kunis and Gabrielle Union have gorgeous round faces. If this sounds like you, try a high-arched look with your brows. The high arch will help create the illusion of a slimmer and longer face.
Tip: Brush your brows upwards, it will help lift the face.
If you have an oval-shaped face…
If you have an oval-shaped face, your forehead is slightly wider than your chin and you probably have high cheekbones. Celebrities like Kerry Washington and Beyoncé have an oval-shaped face. If you do as well, consider yourself lucky — you rock pretty much any brow shape! We recommend trying a soft-angled brow with a slight arch. This will help add dimension to your face without being overly harsh.
Tip: Try to avoid dramatic shapes with your brows. This could throw off the balance of your oval face.
If you have a heart-shaped face…
Heart-shaped faces occur when you have a wider forehead and a very sharp chin — think Scarlett Johansson or Kourtney Kardashian. When it comes to your brows, you’re going to want to try and soften your face. Try a rounded brow shape to help soften the more angular areas of your face.
Tip: When it comes to the thickness of your brows, try a fuller shape.
If you have a long-shaped face…
People with long-shaped faces have a forehead, cheekbones and chin that are all of similar width. Beauties like Sandra Oh and Kelly Rowland rock a long-shaped face. With your brows, you’re going to want to add width to your face. We suggest trying flat brows with a downward curve. This will give you a slight arch without making your face look any longer.
Tip: Brows with an elongated tail will help balance out the features of your face.
If you have a square-shaped face…
Those with a square-shaped face have a forehead, jawline and cheekbones that are all around the same width. If you have a square-shaped face, try thick, flat brows with a softer arch. This will help draw attention to your eyes and brows. Celebrities like Sandra Bullock and Angelina Jolie have square-shaped faces.
Tip: When it comes to a square-shaped face, the thicker the brow the better. This will help balance a heavier jawline.
If you have a diamond-shaped face…
With diamond-shaped faces, people usually want to create the illusion of a shorter face. If you have a diamond-shape face, you’ll have wider cheeks with a narrower chin and forehead — like Jennifer Lopez or Serena Williams. To create the illusion of a shorter face, try creating a curved brow. This will lift your face upward and make it appear rounder.
Tip: Try lengthening your brows — this will help balance your sharper jawline.
