Okay, you’ve got the wax goods, so what’s next? Here are 5 wax tips to help you get the smoothest bikini line this summer.

1. Exfoliate skin 24 to 48 hours before waxing

Using a gentle exfoliant on your skin a couple of times a week is good for it anyway, because removing dead skin cells will help prevent dullness or irritation, but it’s especially important if you’re going to get your bikini line ready for summer.

It’ll help reduce any ingrown hair growth because there won’t be any lingering skin debris to inflame the skin or poke through.

2. Never shave before waxing

It may seem tempting to tame the area before you start your wax but it’s important that you don’t. Hair needs to be around 6 mm long for maximum effectiveness but can be as short as 1.5mm if using Veet® ProfessionalTM Cold Wax Strips*. When using a cold wax strip, this amount of hair will be able to stick to the wax strip better, and when you pull it back, more will come out.

While we’re here, avoid shaving after or between waxings, too. Hair is going to grow back coarser (depending on your own growth and texture) and could risk breaking, which might impact your skin.

3. Keep a regular waxing schedule

While waxing is especially effective for keeping skin smooth and hair-free, it will grow back eventually. Remember to keep hair at least 6 mm thick for removal when planning your waxing schedule.

Waxing can last upward of a month, depending on how fast your own hair grows back, so plan your schedule from there.

5. Avoid waxing while menstruating

And while you’re factoring in when to schedule your at-home bikini line wax session, remember that when you’re menstruating, the skin around your bikini line could be extra sensitive. A general rule is to avoid waxing the bikini line just before and during menstruation, even just after, too. If you’re already cramping up and in discomfort, why add any more?

6. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize

Keep your skin hydrated 24 to 48 hours after waxing. Replenish any lost moisture to your bikini line by keeping the area well hydrated with a moisturizer of your choice.
