Top Tips for Smooth Legs

In the summer months, most of us feel more confident with smooth legs. Having hair free legs is one thing, but keeping them smooth and hydrated after hair removal is another job altogether. With a little extra care, hairy, course legs will be a thing of the past.

1. Prep

Whichever hair removal method you choose, prepping your legs is very important to get them in good shape before your treatment. It’s a good idea to exfoliate, paying special attention to tough areas like your knees and ankles in order to get rid of any dry skin. This can help reduce the likelihood of getting ingrown hairs, while also allowing the wax to stick to the hairs directly, giving you smoother results. Using exfoliating scrubs or gloves is a great way to keep your skin naturally healthy.

2. Water Temperature

Another tip is to make sure that you are not washing in water that is too hot as this can dehydrate your skin. There is no need to compensate with ice cold water, however, a warm wash can be the best option as it opens pores which expose the hair closer to the follicle.

3. Hair Removal

Whether you’re using depilatory creams, or waxing, there are many different methods for removing any unwanted hair on your legs. If you’re using depilatory creams, make sure to read the label and instructions carefully before using the product. Also, make sure to conduct a skin test on a small area at least 24 hours before applying the cream over a larger area. This will let you know if you have any allergies to the ingredients in the cream before applying it to larger areas. You can check out our d creams to see which options are available to you. Alternatively, waxing is another great at-home option, especially if you’re looking for longer lasting results. With waxing, its also important to read all the label and instructions carefully before application. With products that require heating, remember to never heat the wax higher than the indicated temperature.

4. After

After hair removal, it’s a good idea to rinse thoroughly, removing any excess gel, wax or cream. This stage is the perfect time to check that you haven’t missed any areas. It’s no fun finding a patch of unwanted hair when you're already out and about!

5. Moisturise

It’s a good idea to apply a rich moisturiser or even a body butter to your legs following hair removal. Rub in a generous amount and be sure to focus on those particularly dry areas again to help nourish the skin and help lock in the moisture. Try putting some on your legs before bed so the moisturizer can soak in overnight, allowing you to start the day with smoother legs.
